Professor Saleh Ngaski Garba
Vice-President

Born in Ibeto, Magama Local Government Area, Niger State, Saleh is a Professor of Public Health Nursing with the Department of Nursing Science, Bayero University Kano, Nigeria. He is a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Registered Public Health Nurse (RPHN) with 11 years experience as a clinical nurse during which he served with the Niger State Ministry of Health in four hospitals and has 24 years academic experience in the University engaged in teaching, research and community service first in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and now at Bayero University Kano. He had his training as a Registered Nurse at the School of Nursing Bida, Niger State and subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka; MSc and PhD in Medical Sociology and latter a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Nursing all from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria.

He is a holder of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), a Fellow West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives (Community Health Nursing) and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC), Certified Management Consultant (CMC) and a Certified Management Specialist (CMS).

He has been involved in the teaching of Foundations of Nursing, Community/Public Health Nursing, Research, Medical Sociology, Mental Health Nursing, Health Economics, Nursing Education and Nursing Administration at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels as well as for the Fellowship programme of the West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives. He has been involved in MSc and PhD Supervision of Nursing and Public Health students for many Universities including NIMS University, Jaipur India and Universiti Putra Malaysia and has variously served as external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in many Universities. He is an author/co-author of more than 100 articles in several national and international journals and is currently a reviewer and a member of editorial boards of many national and international academic/professional journals and the Editor-In-Chief of the Bayero Journal of Nursing and Healthcare.

He has variously served as Head, Department of Nursing Science, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Board Member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Chairman Standards and Accreditation Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Board Chairman Niger State College of Nursing Sciences and currently as Head, Department of Nursing Science, Bayero University Kano, Vice President of the National Association of University Nursing Programmes (NAUNP) and President of the West African Postgraduate College of Nurses and Midwives.

He is a member of the ECOWAS Regional Council on Health Professionals’ Education, Member National Health Research Ethics Committee and has served as consultant to several organizations including the most recent one as WHO Consultant to the Federal Ministry of Health for the development of Strategic Direction for Nursing and Midwifery in Nigeria. His research interests are in Public Health, Community Health Nursing, Primary Health Care, Clinical Nursing as well as Nursing Education and Administration.  He is married with children and a grandchild and my hobbies are reading, travelling, farming and sports.
